Last time, I blogged about Diabetic Friendly Juice Recipes. This time, it is all about the best juice recipes for high blood pressure or hypertension.

According to the WHO, “Worldwide, raised blood pressure is estimated to cause 7.5 million deaths, about 12.8% of the total of all deaths.”

Hypertension or high blood pressure has no symptoms. It’s becoming common among both young and old. High blood pressure may trigger a stroke or heart attack. People who have blood pressure higher than 130/90 mmHg must see a General Physician.

To lower blood pressure the natural, the very first step is to start with diet and exercise. Juicing could potentially help lowering blood pressure. By adding and eliminating certain foods to your regular diet, you could naturally begin lowering your blood pressure. As high blood pressure or hypertension is preventable and treatable.

What is High Blood Pressure or Hypertension?

Anyone can have high blood pressure; it can be caused by eating too much salt, drinking too much alcohol, being overweight, or not being active enough.

Recommended Diet For High Blood Pressure or Hypertension

1. Eat more vegetables. Consume lots of green leafy vegetables. Eat brown rice.

2. Cut back on salt. Foods loaded with salt are fries, chips, olives, anchovies, cured meats, sausages, microwavable meals, and cheese. Do not add an excessive amount of salt to your food. Highly processed food contain lots of salt. But remember that salt is needed in your daily diet, avoiding it completely won’t help you make healthy.

3. If juicing, make it 80% vegetables and 20% fruits. More than 80% of vegetables is even better! Fruits have their own natural sugars and drinking most fruits isn’t going to be that healthy.

4. Through chewing, nitrates in food are converted by bacteria in our mouths to Nitrites which are converted to Nitric Oxide that is a vaso-dilator. Blood vessels dilate thus reducing blood pressure. Beetroot and celery have nitrates. Forget mouth wash and brushing your teeth at this time because it kills the bacteria in our mouths that will do the conversion.

5. Give up smoking or vaping. It can cause to spike your blood pressure. Same with excess caffeine.

3. Consume onions and garlic. It’s known to lower cholesterol and has its blood-thinning abilities. Garlic lowers blood pressure as well. Also, Onions.

Essential Nutrients To Lower Blood Pressure

Calcium when present in high levels, is associated with low blood pressure. Calcium is present in kale, collard greens, and turnip greens.

Magnesium when present in low levels, is associated with high blood pressure. Collard greens, parsley, and garlic are great sources of magnesium [ad link].

Potassium, when present in high levels, is associated with low blood pressure. Celery, Swiss chard, carrot, and cantaloupe are rich in potassium [ad link].

Onion and garlic contain factors that lower blood pressure.

8 Healthy Juice Recipes for High Blood Pressure

1. Sweet Potassium Shake

  • 1/4 Cantaloupe
  • 1 Banana

Juice cantaloupe. Place juice and banana in blender or food processor, and blend until smooth.

2. Sweet Calcium Shake

  • 1 pint Stawberries
  • 6 oz. silken tofu

Juice strawberries. Place juice and tofu in blender or food processor, and blend until smooth. Garnish with strawberry.

3. Sweet Magnesium Smoothie

  • 1 pint blackberries
  • 1 ripe banana
  • 2 oz. silken tofu
  • 1 Tbsp. brewer’s yeast

Juice berries. Place juice, banana, tofu, and yeast in blender until smooth. Garnish with blackberries. Drink 1 hour before bedtime.

4. Calcium-Rich Cocktail

  • 3 Kale leaves
  • Small handful parsley
  • 4-5 carrots, greens removed
  • 1/2 apple, seeded

Bunch up kale and parsley, and push through hopper with carrots and apple.

5. Potassium Broth

  • Handful parsley
  • Handful spinach
  • 4-5 carrots, greens removed
  • 2 stalks celery

Bunch up parsley and spinach leaves, and push through hopper with carrots and celery.

6. Harvest Soup

  • 2-3 garlic cloves
  • 1 kale leaf
  • 1 large tomato
  • 2 stalks celery
  • 1 collard leaf, chopped
  • 1 Tbsp. croutons

Roll garlic in kale leaf, and push through hopper with tomato and celery. Place juice in saucepan, add chopped collards, and gently heat. Garnish with croutons.

7. Garlic Express

  • Handful parsley
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 4-5 carrots, greens removed
  • 2 stalks celery

Bunch up parsley and push through hopper with garlic, carrots, and celery.

8. Magnesium Drink

  • 1 Garlic clove
  • Small handful parsley
  • 4-5 carrots, greens removed
  • 2 stalks celery
  • Parsley sprig for garnish

Wrap garlic in parsley, and push through hopper with carrots and celery. Pour juice into glass, and garnish with sprig parsley.
